Load Cells Are Integral To Your Weighing System

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

As drivers move through highways and freeways all over the country, commuting to work, they come across those titans of the road – the 18 wheeler truck. These behemoths are the heart of the manufacturer shipping industry. It is these constant convoys that keep stores stocked with products. The logistics of this industry, however, is virtually unknown the masses. Thinking that it’s just a matter of filling a truck and sending it on its way highlights a misunderstanding of long hauls. Variables includes gas, the weight of the truck, the products, and the actual driving route. Weighing these vehicles require an extremely sensitive system which requires load cells for their proper function.

Their role in a system is massive and really makes them central to any proper function. These transducers are so accurate precisely because they’re built to take on a number of potentially devastating environmental factors. The need for this coincides with the nature of the work. Trucks are hardly free of debris or issues coming off the road and stations are usually located in areas that are hardly pleasant.

All load cells are not created equal and, in fact, come in a vast number of models that differ in both construction and their ability to be exposed to certain conditions. As a consumer in search of the right cell, this purchase requires diligence and an ability to put the time into research.

This isn’t a journey that requires you to go it alone, however. Manufacturers are both knowledgeable and willing to share their knowledge with you. Armed with a list of questions you can fire away at any of these professionals and they’ll walk you through what you need.

Choosing the right model is not the only consideration to take into account. If you want your system to last then it’s important to understand what is expected during the installation process as well as maintenance. There is no just plugging it in and walking away with these objects, they are central to your system and deserve to be taken care of.

Without taking the time to put in maintenance, your cells can become damaged or destroyed. Although they’re built tough, they aren’t immortal. Maintenance issues aren’t difficult and really just require that you account for reasonable variables. Keeping both the product clean, as well as any drainage areas nearby free of debris are both simple steps you can take to extend the life of your cell.

There is also the issue of inclement weather. Freak things like a lightning strike cannot be accounted for, obviously, but if you’re located in an area that is exposed to more extreme weather like hurricanes you can’t claim ignorance when something happens. Part of what can combat these problems, beyond maintenance, include the actual construction of the models themselves.

Construction is related both to the use of the product and the environment it’s going to be installed in. Being careless with these particulars can be devastating not just for your system, but for your business as a whole. A broken system costs money to fix, but in the time before you discover the problem your safety record may drop in a way that hurts your reputation. Do your research and you can find the right cells for your needs.

Choose from an expansive selection of state-of-the-art scientific technologies including the pressure sensor, calibration systems, load cells, load cells, mass flow sensor, and accelerometer. These specialized tools are very popular among the research and development industries.

The Lasting Appeal Of Zombie Movies

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Though monsters have held us in their thrall since the dawning of the age of cinema, few monsters have been as popular as those portrayed in zombie movies. For a variety of reasons, these undead creatures have been popular for generations and seem to have a peculiar appeal that resonates even into modern times. There have been many attempts at explaining this phenomenon, but no single explanation can account for the diverse audience these types of films draw.

The monsters

The idea of zombies is nothing new, of course. They have had their place within the voodoo religion, where they were traditionally thought of as dead people who had been raised into a state of animation against their wishes. Far from the fearsome creatures seen on the big screen, those monsters were merely animated drones that did the biding of their creator. The concepts of cannibalism and brain-eating would come later.

The movie version

On film, zombies were still animated corpses, but they soon gained new powers and motivations to ensure that they were even more frightening than the drone-like voodoo versions. In many of the earliest films featuring zombies, the creatures were portrayed as slow-moving but relentless hunters whose sole driving impulse was to feast on human brains.

Later movies expanded on this simple concept, and added to the desire for brains an insatiable huger for human flesh. Some films even went so far as to provide the creatures with increased speed and even some semblance of organized intelligence, undoubtedly to enhance the threat they posed to the films’ protagonists.

What they mean to us

Given the simplicity of the film formula for almost every movie featuring zombies, these creatures must have some deep effect on the minds of viewers. After all, hardly a year goes by without at least one new entry into the genre, with many of them being little more than poorly disguised remakes of previous films. The truth of the matter is that zombies have always represented something more than the mindless, shambling behemoths that they seem to be.

From the earliest days, zombies have symbolized a variety of human worries: from the faceless threat of communism in the Forties and Fifties to the desire for a break from conformity in later years. In recent decades, the zombies have reflected a fear of viral plagues and radiation, and those twin threats have featured prominently in many of these monster films.

Therein lies the true attraction of zombies and films featuring the creatures: their very nature provides a broad blank canvas upon which every viewer can paint his or her own unique fears. Teenagers may often see their own fear of being isolated played out in the movie as heroes are forced to find creative ways to hide form the undead menace, while older audiences find their own deep fears reflected in the waves of zombies that fill the screen.

One thing is for certain: the world of entertainment will continue to need antagonists that draw viewer interest, and zombies will probably always be able to fill that need. Because of that, it seems likely that zombie movies will continue to be a popular form of entertainment into the foreseeable future.

How To Stop Springer Spaniel Barking – Is Your Dog Becoming A Nuisance?

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Does your springer spaniel bark excessively? These great dogs are not noted for having barking problems, though they can be excitable . You do want them to bark when there’s an intruder, or with excitement when the kids get in from school, and of course, when nature calls! But annoying the neighbours? No, you don’t want that.

There are answers to the problem, depending on what the reason for the barking is. Knowing why might help you find the best solution. Remember that dogs need to bark to communicate, for better or for worse. I bet that even you talk to yourself when you are sometimes alone! I do, anyway.

Why do they bark?

Besides communication with other dogs (and you), Spaniels bark because of:

- hunger

- attack

- defence

- loneliness

- as a warning

- boredom

- fear

The key thing is that you want them to bark in particular circumstances only, and you want them to stop when told.

Let’s assume that

1. Your springer is checked regularly when you groom him (or her).

2. That he/she gets checked annually by the so that any health problem is eliminated.

3. That the dog’s basket/sleeping area is not too hot or too cold.

4. That he gets enough exercise to keep him relatively fit and tired and enough ‘relief’ opportunities (or has a litter tray in the home when you are out).

5. That you do not have many strangers calling at the door, and that there are not a lot of foxes or raccoons visiting your garden at night (get the idea)?

Does your springer only cause a problem when he’s on his own, and your neighbours complain about it (I had that problem myself once)? If he’s not messing in the house then the reason could be loneliness.

Dogs do suffer from poor hearing, even deafness , and it’s important to make sure that your springer’s ears are clean. He might not be able to hear you telling him to stop barking.

Is the problem new?

If your dog was ok before, but is now a problem, then that is a signal that something has changed – it could be his age or health, it could be that your daughter (he’s been her favourite) now has her boyfriend visit..well, how long is a piece of string?

Have you changed her diet? Moved home? Bought him a new dog basket?

In short, does he have anything to complain about – because they are smart dogs and they will complain if they are not happy. One of my springers didn’t bark when he was unhappy or I scolded him – he grunted just like an old man.

Curing the Problem

OK, so you’ve worked through all the obvious things. Maybe your pup is now 9 months old and the barking problem continues. Training is going well, he is now following the basic commands and walking to heel, you have started retrieve training, yet the problem still persists.

Maybe you’ve got a rescue dog and not a pup. He might have had a tough life so far, you don’t always know. Did you ask the staff at the rescue centre if he barked excessively? It’s not always a sure guide, as there’s often a lot of barking at these centres – the staff have little choice over which dogs arrive at their gates.

There are solutions to the barking problem (depending on the reason), but first of all, don’t reinforce the behaviour. If your dog barks, then don’t give her a cuddle or pat her telling her to be quiet.

Some owners favour electric collars – that’s an old Pavlovian approach and not in keeping with best practice. The key to curing is understanding, and if you’ve looked at the problem from all angles, then you probably need professional advice.

Greening and Giving Life – Through Silk!

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

In a tiny, impoverished village deep in Jharkand, India, Preeti and her family have hope for the future. Despite having no electricity and no paved roads, the village has begun working towards self-sufficiency through sustainable development. You see, Preeti, her family and neighbors raise silkworms, which are abundant in the forests near their homes. Through careful rearing and caring for the trees in which they breed, these silkworms are coaxed to multiply. Only when the moths have left will the empty cocoons be gathered to make into silk.

For thousands of years, human beings have produced from the lowly silkworm cocoon beautiful silks. Known for its luxury, elegance and comfort, silk remains highly in demand throughout the globe. Silk is made from the cocoon of a silkworm. Unfortunately, traditional commercial ways of harvesting cocoons usually involve killing the pupae inside. This allows a cocoon to unravel in one continuous thread, which would be then woven into fine silk. The cost, however, is high. It takes thousands of dead silkworms to make just one meter of fabric. Moreover, commercial silk farms and manufacturers have been criticized for various reasons: for using child labor and/or for utilizing chemicals in the various stages of the silk production process to name a few.

The silk shawls and scarves you select for purchase can connect you to Indian silk farmers in the most surprising of ways. Today, India is the world’s largest supplier of all commercial varieties of silk. Many villages deep in the Indian subcontinent are heavily dependent on silk production for their living. The residents are even able to surmount political challenges such as insurgency because of the income generated from silk. In addition, the increasing demand for eco-friendly and fair trade products in international markets have, thus, been a welcome boon to villages like Preeti’s who use safe, non-violent, and natural methods to harvest cocoons and weave them into silk. Through this, they have a means of livelihood that will not only sustain their lives but also their surroundings as well.

Moreover, Preeti’s tribe is now able to practice and teach the art of wild silk production to younger generations for them to continue earning a living. In addition, fair trade enables villages like Preeti’s to improve their infrastructure in other ways such as in enabling them to buy better farming equipment, allowing them to install running water service or providing access to healthcare and medication.

Wild-silks are silks derived from silkworms that are “untamed”, grown in the wild or in the forests. Different types of silkworm (factoring in their diet and habitat) make different types of silks. Wild silk, while coarser than commercial silk, is lightweight and naturally comes in a variety of shades. Silks like muga, tussar and eri make lovely scarves, shawls and clothing that boast of unique natural textures and patterns. These silks are most often dyed by natural pigments extracted from fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Tussar silk is a lightweight silk with a stiff but airy and delicate feel. The natural diet of tussar silkworms produces silk in shades of gold. Tussar silks blend very well with cotton or wool to make all-season apparel and accessories. Muga silk is actually the second most expensive fabric in the world, after pashmina wool. It is prized for its shimmering golden color which only gets better as you wash it. Muga silk is stain free, washable, and highly durable. Eri silk is a beautiful creamy white silk that is almost wrinkle free and which also blends well with other types of fabric. It has a dull, soft, wool-like finish.

Silk is one of the most environmentally-friendly fabrics because the means of raising silkworms, harvesting the cocoons and spinning the cloth can all be done in organic, renewable, sustainable and non-toxic manner. In addition, silk is biodegradable as well!

By enjoying silk, wild silk in particular, you help thousands local farmers and woman artisans. Silk production remains a major source of economic independence in areas where wages are low and poverty is the norm. Your purchase allows retailers and partner fair trade organizations to ensure that the working conditions, medical health and treatment of silk workers are fair, beneficial and accessible.

In the end, it is not only retailers and consumers like you who get to enjoy the many benefits of silk, but people like Preeti and her tribe can derive a great deal of life-giving financial security, self-respect and empowerment from this simple but elegant fabric. ——————– While the names, locations and circumstances in this article have been changed, the difficulties that Indian women in Jharkand, India and other such areas face each day as well as the hope that artisanship can give them is very real.

A Brief Introduction To Swarovski Crystals

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Swarovski is the name of a family based crystal company located in Austria. The name has become synonymous with luxury-quality beads. The company was founded in 1895 by David Swarovski, who apprenticed under his father and learned the art of cutting glass. In 1892, he patented a machine that ran on electricity and allowed him to increase his production of crystal-cut glass. Although originally based in what is now the Czech Republic, David Swarovski soon moved himself and his company to Austria to take advantage of the hydroelectricity that was widely available.

Swarovski Crystals are the finest cut crystals available. Noted for their color, cut, and clarity, the finer Swarovski Crystals can sometimes command prices that are equal to the price of diamonds. Celebrities clamor for products adorned with the beads, ranging from Swarovski Crystal adorned clothing, to figurines, to fashion accessories. In addition, many celebrities use them in their stage costumes. Examples of Swarovski Crystal adorned costumes include:

Madonna, who used over 1.5 million Swarovski Crystals in her “Sticky and Sweet” Tour in 2008. The most noted accessory was her DJ-style headset, that was used during her performance of “Music.” The headset was composed of over 5,000 loose beads. Over 300 man-hours went into the sewing on of the Swarovski Crystals into her costumes and mesh stockings.

In 2002, Michael Jackson spent over a million Euros on Swarovski Crystals. He purchased over 300,000 Swarovski Crystals which were then used to adorn his costumes and to adorn the stage settings.

Lenny Kravitz commissioned the Swarovski Crystal Company to create a chandelier that he designed himself. He insisted that each crystal be a Swarovski Crystal.

The “Era” and “Kiosque” bags that were used in the first “Sex and the City” movie were decorated with Swarovski Crystals.

The 550-pound star that sits atop the Christmas Tree in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza, was designed and made by the Swarovski Crystal Company. The star boasts 25,000 crystals, with 1,000,000 facets, and 300 pounds of crystal panels.

Don’t think that Swarovski Crystals are just for the rich and elite. Swarovski also creates one-of-a-kind rings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, and other jewelry designed for those with smaller budgets. Evening bags can be purchased that are accented with Swarovski Crystals on the strap, as well as high-heeled shoes that contain Swarovski Crystals on the ankle straps. For evening glamour, consider purchasing a pair of stockings or tights that have added Swarovski Crystal embellishments.

Besides jewelry and clothing, the Swarovski Crystal Company also offers figurines, vases, tea lights, and Christmas ornaments. All these are designed using the precision crafting and the crystal-cut facets that Swarovski is known for. Swarovski also carries a full line of home accessories which includes wine glasses, fruit bowls, and candelabras. For those who are ever in doubt about what to purchase for a special family member or for a special occasion, anything embellished with Swarovski Crystals is an elegant, affordable choice. Just look for the swan logo, which represents the House of Swarovski.

Alphabet Soup Background

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

When thinking of the concept for this blog I thought that an alphabet soup background would be fitting. I found several images of alphabet soups and made a half dozen background images. The one that you see on the site was the winner of the competition.

I have it in mind to make other backgrounds using food stuffs as the building block and putting them into a gallery on my background image site: Symmetrical Backgrounds.
