The KeyWord Kove is a blog that I have put up to explore the power of keywords.
The search engines use keywords to determine which pages to show to a searcher. Keywords are the basis of on site and on page SEO. The ideal situation is to find a word or phrase that has many searches but not much competition in the form of pages that contain the word or phrase. Phrases are referred to as long tail keywords. The longer the tail the more specific the search, but the fewer searches will generally be performed.
I have been seeing the power of the long tail on my comedy site, Web Pickups. I post email comedy on the site primarily. I started using the subject line from the viral emails as my post title and keyword tag. I have several pages that have turned up on the first page search results because it turns out that people search for those emails by the subject line. I see a good number of visitors a day that have searched for one of the email subject line.
I am going to do a bit of keyword research and make posts to this blog with keywords that are getting a high search volume. The competition for most of these terms will probably be quite stiff, but if I hit high in the search results for a time I may see a good bit of traffic generated to this blog. It will be an interesting exercise. Stay tuned.
